What is a Fiber Media Converter?

What is a Fibridge Fiber Media Converter?

In the context of network hardware, a Fibridge's fiber optic transceiver is an economical and flexible device designed to implement and optimize fiber optic links in various networks. The most commonly used type within fiber optic transceivers is the device acting as a transceiver, which converts electrical signals used in copper Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) network cables into optical waves for fiber optic cables. If the distance between two network devices exceeds the transmission distance of copper cables, a fiber optic such as 200g sfp connection is necessary.
The copper to fiber conversion performed by the fiber optic transceiver allows two network devices with copper ports to connect over long distances via fiber optic cables.

Technology Encyclopedia Explains Quick Media Converter

Media converters also provide conversion from fiber to fiber, from multimode fiber to single-mode fiber. They also convert dual fiber links into single fiber using Bidirectional (BIDI) data flows. Moreover, for applications using Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), media converters have the ability to switch between wavelengths.

Typically, fiber optic transceivers are protocol-specific, and they support a wide range of data rates and network types. They are represented as physical layer devices or layer 2 switching systems. Fiber optic transceivers with layer 2 switching capabilities offer rate-switching as well as other innovative features for core switch access switch.

The complexity of networks, challenging applications, and the ever-expanding range of network devices have pushed the requirements for network bandwidth and speed to new heights, and have introduced the need for longer distances within local area networks (LANs). The answer to these challenges is the fiber optic transceiver. Fiber optic transceivers allow for the use of fiber optics when needed and integrate new devices into the existing wiring infrastructure. Fiber optic transceivers perfectly combine fiber and copper cables as well as various fiber forms within LAN networks. They support multiple protocols, media types, and data rates to build more reliable and cost-effective networks with network switch oem.

 Fibridge Media Converter Features

  • Extend network distance by converting UTP to fiber and extending fiber links

  • Preserve investment in existing equipment

  • Utilize WDM wavelengths to enhance the potential of existing fibers

New Applications of Fibridge Media Converter

  • Conversion for remote handling and multi-port switch configurations

  • Conversion of DM wavelengths to enhance bandwidth capacity

  • Promoting fiber to the desktop

How do I  Setup Fibridge Fiber Media Converter

1.Take the gigabit fiber media converter out from its packing carton, examine the device, contact factory if there is damage.

2. Connect the fiber patch cord or pigtail to two end’s gigabit fiber media converter’s optical port.

3. Connect UPT cable from your network device’s gigabit RJ45 port to gigabit media converter’s RJ45 port.

4. Plug power cable and turn on the device. The power LED will be on, and the other LEDs will flash in sequence of self-detection. After self-detection finish, gigabit media converter’s optical port and RJ45 port working status will be determined by their detection result.
